Problem

An annular aluminum fin of uniform thickness 1.5 mm, inner (base) radius 12 mm, and outer radius 28 mm is mounted on a tube whose outer surface is at 95 °C. The fin conductivity is 180 W/m·K; air at 20 °C with h = 50 W/m²·K cools both faces and the outer edge. Using the appropriate annular-fin relations, determine the heat transfer rate from one fin.

Hint

Replace the convecting tip by r_{2c} = r_2 + t/2 and form m = √(2h/(k t)).
