Problem
A closed-loop water tunnel of constant 250 mm diameter has a total centerline length of 28 m. The loop contains a 6° conical nozzle contracting to 80 mm, a 1.2 m test section of 80 mm diameter, and a diffuser returning to 250 mm, after which the flow is returned to the pump. At a test-section speed of 12 m/s the measured head loss of the entire loop, exclusive of the pump, is 9.4 m of water. Determine the volume flow rate and the hydraulic power that the pump must deliver to the fluid.
Hint
Volume flow is fixed by the 80 mm test section at 12 m/s.
