Problem
A parabolic cable under uniform horizontal loading of intensity w₀ = 2.10 kN/m spans L = 36.0 m with sag h = 5.40 m between level supports. Determine the cable tension at a horizontal distance of 9.00 m from midspan, and find the vertical distance from the support line down to that point on the cable.
Hint
Find \(H=wL^2/(8h)\) first; the parabola is symmetric about midspan.
