Problem

A pliers-type cutting tool has handles OA and OB of length 180 mm pivoted at O, and short jaws OC and OD of length 40 mm. The jaws close on a wire at C and D along the line of symmetry. When the handles are opened 30° from each other (15° each from the centerline), forces of 80 N are applied perpendicular to each handle at A and at B. Determine the cutting force on the wire and the pin force at O.

Hint

Model each half as a straight bar through O; the 15° opening is the moment-arm factor at the jaw, not a change in the 80 N moment arm.
