Problem
A simply supported beam of length 6.0 m carries a downward triangular distributed load that is zero at the left support and 9.0 kN/m at the right support, with no concentrated forces on the span. Determine the support reactions by replacing the distributed load with its resultant. Then, with x measured from the left support, write w(x), integrate to obtain V(x) and M(x) using V(0) equal to the left reaction and M(0) = 0, and locate the cross section where V = 0. Compute M at that section.
Hint
The triangular load’s resultant is (1/2)(6.0 m)(9.0 kN/m) acting at 2L/3 from the zero-intensity end.
