Problem

Mohr’s circle for a plane-stress state is centered at (σ_avg, 0) = (22 ksi, 0) and has radius 37 ksi. The point representing the x-face lies 25° clockwise from the algebraically larger principal-stress point on the circle. Determine σ_x, σ_y, and τ_xy, and then find the stresses on a plane at θ = 18° counterclockwise from the x-face.

Hint

With τ positive down, clockwise from the right-hand principal intercept is toward positive τ_xy.
